Sofía Vergara has shared a cryptic message about "narcissistic men" after her ex-husband Joe Manganiello made claims about their marriage in his upcoming memoir.

The Modern Family actress, 54, reposted an Instagram story originally shared by her son, Manolo Gonzalez Vergara, 35.

Manolo's post featured a graphic contrasting the behaviour of a "good man" with that of a "narcissistic man", including references to boundaries and gaslighting. He also added a message suggesting that no amount of effort is ever enough for someone with narcissistic traits.

Sofía subsequently shared the image with her own followers, without adding any explanation. Neither she nor Manolo mentioned Joe by name, and it's not clear whether the posts were directed at him.

The posts appeared on Thursday and Friday, just as excerpts from the actor's book began circulating.

The actress also reposted a quote from Tom Brady about being able to laugh at yourself, adding: "Life's too short to be too serious."

The social media activity comes as Joe, 49, prepares to release his memoir, Bloodlines, on October 13. In the book, the True Blood star opens up about an autoimmune illness that left him in severe pain, caused dramatic weight loss and led to emergency intestinal surgery.

He also claims the health crisis placed enormous strain on his relationship with Sofía, alleging that she was emotionally distant during his ordeal.

According to Joe, he struggled with a lack of physical affection and felt unsupported while battling the illness. He alleges that Sofía refused to hug him even when he asked her to, and ridiculed the comfort he found in his pet Chihuahua, Bubbles.

Joe has also discussed experiencing suicidal thoughts during his illness, and credited caring for Bubbles with giving him a reason to keep going.

Sofía and Joe married in a lavish Palm Beach ceremony in November 2015 after dating for just over a year.

The former couple announced their split in July 2023 after seven years of marriage and finalised their divorce in February 2024.

At the time, Sofía suggested that differing views on children had been a factor in their split. She told Spanish newspaper El País that she did not want to become a mother again later in life, while Joe had hoped to have children.

Joe has since disputed that explanation, claiming they had tried IVF and that he ultimately reconsidered fatherhood because he worried about his future health and the prospect of leaving Sofía to raise a child alone.

Sofía shares Manolo with her first husband, Joe Gonzalez. Since the divorce, Joe Manganiello has become engaged to actress Caitlin O'Connor, while Sofía has been romantically linked to jewellery executive Douglas Chabbott.
