Al Roker is one strict parent. The TODAY Show host revealed the severe parenting measure he stands by, which you can watch in the video above.
Al, 72, is a father-of-three, who he shares with his ex-wife Alice Bell, and his wife of 31 years, fellow journalist Deborah Roberts. His children, Courtney, 39, Leila, 28, and Nick, 24, see a different side of Al than the rest of America.
While to us, he's the gleeful meteorologist on our morning news, to his kids, he's a strict parent. On Tuesday, October 27, Al revealed one of his stricter parenting measures. After sharing a new study on the increased screen time for children across the United States, with teens spending an average of five to eight hours a day on screens, Craig Melvin said to Al: "You were one of the first who decided to take the phone and you put it in a locker."
"Yeah for Nick, we had to literally put it in a safe that had a timer on it," the morning show host shared. He added a reminder to parents: "Listen, [they say this about] every generation. When I was growing up [it was], 'You're spending too much time in front of that TV.'"
Savannah Guthrie joked: "It worked for you, Al. Look at you. Now you're on the TV!"
While Al used a stricter method to get his son off of his phone, many parents are trying a variety of tricks. From nature walks to a family hour of no-screen time, the low-technology revolution is here.
