Paris Hilton baffled by Britain

Having built a multi-million dollar empire before the age of 25, there can be little doubt that Paris Hilton knows how to play the showbiz game. The blonde bombshell's aptitude for geography would appear to be a little more limited, however, after she revealed she didn't know London was in the UK.

Transcripts of a legal statement she made in the US show that, despite visiting the British capital on numerous occasions, the hotel heiress is still not sure about its whereabouts. The glamorous star inadvertently gave an insight into her knowledge of European geography while responding to a lawyer's questions about a nightclub bust-up she had with actress Zeta Graff, an ex-girlfriend of her former beau Paris Latsis.

When asked whether UK publications had reported on the incident, Paris responded: "No, there is stuff in London." Her lawyer Larry Stein then points out that London is in the United Kingdom, prompting his client to concede: "Right… UK… whatever."

Ms Graff has filed a defamation suit against Paris, claiming her publicist placed a story in the media which wildly exaggerated their argument. According to the original article, which appeared in the New York Post, the plaintiff had to be ejected from the nightspot Kabaret after screaming insults at her.

Explaining that she couldn't remember where the article was published because of an apparent language barrier, Paris also showed her awareness of the diversity of languages spoken on this side of the Atlantic. "I was in Europe all summer, and all there is, like, French," she remarked.

Questioned about who was with her on the night of the row, she says, "I meet so many people, I don't even know some of my friends' names." And when the lawyer asked her about one of her companions, who was identified only as Terry, she commented: "It's a weird Greek name, like Douglas."

While the specifics of the spat may never be fully known, it remains clear that there is no love lost between the two protagonists. "I just said to her that she is old and should stay at home with her child instead of being at nightclubs with young people," explained Paris. "And just that, what else did I say? Just that she is not cute at all."
