She celebrated her 28th birthday on Sunday so Katie Holmes could be forgiven for treating herself to a special shopping spree. But the newlywed clearly had her baby daughter and husband Tom Cruise on her mind as she hit the Marc Jacobs store in LA.

The Batman Begins actress, who brightened up her top-to-toe black ensemble with a pair of pillar-box red heels, has been settling into married life now all the wedding celebrations are over. She spent time exploring the racks in the New York designer's boutique before picking out some pretty items for daughter Suri and men's jumpers - possibly for Tom.

But she didn't go empty handed herself, choosing a beige poncho to keep her warm and stylish over the winter months. She has marked herself out as something of a fashion leader this year, hitting the runway shows with new best pal Victoria Beckham and earning column inches with her wardrobe choices.
