French style guru Jean Paul Gaultier has never been one for the understated look - and his latest collection proved no exception. The flamboyant designer took Paris Menswear Week by storm on Monday with a stunning new range that owed much to Seventies shows like Starsky And Hutch.

The fashion maestro had knitted cardigans a la Paul Michael Glasier mingling on the runway with leather jackets and striking velvet creations in a range of warm autumnal colours such as chocolate, cinnamon and plum. And, true to his hallmark cheeky approach, he'd thrown in some of the decade's more challenging glam-rock legacies, including sparkly Lurex leggings which glimmered beneath pleated kilts.

Several other big labels were also showcasing leather, including Masatomo and Hermes which both presented chic jackets and coats.

Marc Jacobs meanwhile made light work of keeping up Louis Vuitton's reputation for elegance, while Yves Saint Laurent's chief designer Stefano Pilati confessed to taking the inspiration for his light flannel suits from the king of cool himself, Justin Timberlake.
