It is recommended that pregnant women have no more than 200mg of caffeine a day. High levels can result in babies having a low birth weight, increasing the risk of health complications later in life, and can even cause miscarriage.
Don't forget caffeine is not just found in tea and coffee but also chocolate end energy drinks.
One mug of instant coffee - 100mg (approx)
One mug of filter coffee - 140mg (approx)
One mug of tea - 75mg (approx)
One can of cola - 40mg (approx)
One can of energy drink - 80mg (approx)
One 50g bar of plain dark chocolate - 50mg (approx)
One 50g bar of milk chocolate - 25mg (approx)
Don't worry if you occasionally exceed the 200mg recommendations. But do try to cut down, drinking instead decaffeinated tea and coffee, fruit juices and water
