Britain's Got Talent sensation Susan Boyle has been taken to a London clinic with exhaustion after coming second in the grand final of the TV star search.

The 48-year-old church worker was taken by ambulance to the Priory Clinic in Southgate, north London, escorted by police, reports the Sun newspaper.

A Scotland Yard representative said: "Police were called at approximately 6pm to a central London hotel by doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act.

"Police and ambulance attended. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

After dance group Diversity took first place in the programme's culmination - watched by 18 million viewers - it emerged Susan would be taking time off on the advice of a doctor.

"Following Saturday night's show Susan is exhausted and emotionally drained," said a Britain's Got Talent spokesperson. "She has been seen by her by her private GP who supports her decision to take a few days out for rest and recovery. We offer her our ongoing support and wish her a speedy recovery."

Industry experts estimated that despite Susan's shock loss she stands to make £8 million in the coming years from album sales, TV and magazine deals and an autobiography. She will reportedly sign a multi-million pound deal with Simon Cowell, who said: "She's got a massive future ahead of her."

There were also claims the middle aged star missed out on the £100,000 top prize as supporters did not bother to vote because they just assumed she would win.
