Hat heroine: Kate's rules for carrying off headgear

20 JUNE 2011

Whether it's the natty little Vivien Sheriff saucer, worn for her first engagement in Anglesey, which cleverly featured buttons from a Royal Welch Fusiliers' uniform or the rather more imposing affair that appeared at the Trooping the Colour ceremony, the Duchess knows how to do titfers.

Of course, genetics are on her side. Tall enough to pull off a larger model, she also has the delicate features to complement more dainty creations.

And, the new Windsor wife also sticks to one other important rule: match the hat to the outfit, not the other way round.
