Following Paul O'Grady's death aged 67 last week, his close friend has opened up about his marriage with Andre Portasio.

The Paul O'Grady Show host married Andre in 2017 following an 11-year relationship, and Christopher Biggins has revealed that the "gorgeous" ballet dancer had a huge impact on "rogue" Paul.

Speaking to The Sun on Sunday, Christopher said: "He married a gorgeous man and I think that is what saved him from descending into life as a rogue.

"He made a happy life in the Kent countryside with his animals."

The Lily Savage star married Andre – who is 25 years his junior – on 5 August 2017 at the Goring Hotel in London, and he admitted Julian Clary prompted him to take the next step in his relationship.

"Julian put the seed in my head. He said, 'I’ve got married. You should,'" he previously explained, adding: "And he’s right, then you protect your partner. If anything happens to me, he is protected. It makes sense.

"You feel more committed. You have made a vow, you have to stick to it. But we still fight like cat and dog."

Paul passed away on 28 March and Andre confirmed the sad news the following day by releasing a statement that read: "It is with great sadness that I inform you that Paul has passed away unexpectedly but peacefully yesterday evening.

"He will be greatly missed by his loved ones, friends, family, animals and all those who enjoyed his humour, wit and compassion.

"I know that he would want me to thank you for all the love you have shown him over the years."

He later revealed the last photo of the couple, which was taken during their holiday in January. Next to an Instagram snap of the pair looking happy and relaxed on a boat, he wrote: "In time I hope to write to everyone individually and thank you for all posts, messages, phone calls, emails, cards and flowers of support.

"I much appreciate you all taking the time to reach out. I’m so very touched and I’m sure Paul would be too!

"Browsing for a picture I found the last picture we ever took together. Unbeknownst to us back in January this would be our last ever holiday together."
