Rachel Weisz and her husband Daniel Craig are a notoriously private couple, which the actress has said is a deliberate choice to "protect" their marriage and avoid "betrayal."

The Mummy star, 53, and the James Bond actor, 55, reportedly first met in college in 1994 but their romance didn't begin until years later when working on Dream House together. They got married in a secret ceremony in New York in 2011, which was attended by just four people, including her son Henry with her former partner Darren Aronofsky and Daniel's daughter Ella from his marriage to actress Fiona Loudon.

Daniel briefly described married life as "great" back in 2011, but he has kept quiet on the matter otherwise. Explaining why they keep their relationship under wraps, Rachel told More magazine: "He's just too famous. It would be a betrayal. You have to protect your marriage.

"When you're young, you tell your girlfriends everything. One of the great pleasures of not being an adolescent is that you don't have to share everything. When you're married, that door closes. The audience goes, and you're in your own life."

Despite the fact that she was previously engaged to producer Darren, Rachel revealed she never thought she would walk down the aisle.

"I never thought I would get married," she said in an interview with the Evening Standard. "It was not an ambition of mine. It was the opposite. I couldn’t relate to romantic comedies — marriage seems to be the whole point of them. Then it just happened, happily, at a more mature moment."

In a rare comment about her marriage with Daniel, she said: "You make it your own. It’s very personal, it’s very private. I don’t think mine’s particularly exceptional apart from that we’re both in the public eye."

Rachel and Daniel welcomed a daughter in 2018, but like the rest of their home life, they like to keep her out of the spotlight.
