Despite being quietly engaged for around three years, Mick Jagger, 82, and Melanie Hamrick, 38, have remained very tight-lipped about their wedding plans.
Rolling Stones fans may be questioning whether his silence has anything to do with the fact that he had previously sworn off marriage, following his two failed attempts with Bianca Pérez-Mora Macias from 1971 to 1978 and Jerry Hall from 1990 to 1999.
Despite the fact that the latter was not considered to be legally binding, leading to an annulment, it fed into Mick's narrative that monogamous relationships are not for everyone. In unearthed comments, the 'Sympathy for the Devil' hitmaker admitted that he thought marriage was an "elaborate fantasy", with only species such as swans mating for life.
After referring to his ex L'Wren Scott, whom he was romantically linked to from 2001 until her death in 2014, as someone he was "kind of dating", Mick discussed his views on commitment.
"I don’t really subscribe to a completely normal view of what relationships should be," he began in an interview with The New York Times in 2010, four years before he met his now-fiancée, Melanie.
"I have a bit more of a bohemian view. To be honest, I don’t really think much of marriage. I’m not saying it’s not a wonderful thing and people shouldn’t do it, but it’s not for me. And not for quite a few other people too, it would appear.
"I just think it’s perhaps not quite what it’s cracked up to be. I know it’s an elaborate fantasy."
Comparing humans to the rest of the animal kingdom, he added: "If you have studied or have even a passing knowledge of animal behavior, it’s hard to see how our rules and regulation fit in."
Mick and Melanie's love story
The singer and the former ballerina, who danced with the American Ballet Theatre for fifteen years before retiring in 2019, met backstage at a Rolling Stones concert in Tokyo in 2014.
They dated quietly for two years before Mick welcomed his eighth child, a son called Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger, in December 2016.
After sparking engagement rumours in 2023 with a ring on her left hand, which she denied was a promise of marriage, Melanie confirmed that Mick had secretly proposed during an interview with French publication Paris Match in 2025.
"We've been engaged two or three years," she said, cryptically adding: "Maybe one day we'll marry, maybe not. We are so happy in our current life that I would be too afraid to change anything."
The private nature of their relationship and engagement means fans are unlikely to get further details about their wedding plans. When she was asked by HELLO! if the Rolling Stones would perform at her and Mick's wedding, she continued to keep her cards close to her chest, coyly replying: "Whose wedding?"
She added that all the decisions would "be determined" later.
