The public vote pitched Kitty against Misha B in the final two and the pair were forced into a sing off.
But three of the four judges decided she should go.
Gaga, who was on the show to perform her new single Marry The Night, ran on stage after tearful Kitty said her final farewells to viewers, and enveloped her in a huge hug.
The Born This Way singer took the sad contestant back to her dressing room where they spent the evening drinking wine and hanging out.
Kitty's father Eric Edwards had been walking around his home town of Cheltenham with a sandwich board encouraging people to vote for the 26-year-old.
But his efforts did not pay off and she was pitched against Mancunian Misha B - a show favourite.
In the sing off Kitty performed Over The Rainbow - so often thought of as a goodbye song - and it proved the end as Misha won the judges over with Jessie J's Who You Are.
Louis Walsh said both girls "absolutely killed it" and picked Misha B to go home.
Fellow judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Kelly Rowland praised the women's performances but both sent Kitty home.
Take That star Gary Barlow had the final say. He said of all the other five acts that had gone through the two slugging it out for survival "want it the most", but he agreed Kitty had reached the end of the road.
