Three years ago, Sex and the City star Jason Lewis stepped away from Hollywood after finding fame as Samanatha Jones' model boyfriend, Jerry 'Smith' Jerrod. The 54-year-old actor has now resurfaced with a completely different look from when he was on the '90s cult classic.

Jason revisited his memorable character in a recent video campaign for the alcoholic beverage brand, Owl's Brew. "It's been a minute since the tasteful billboards and the few late-night episodes you may have seen," he says in the video posted on Instagram, sporting a short, slicked-back brunette hairstyle in place of the long blonde hair he became known for in the noughties while on SATC.

"A lot's still the same. Still photograph well. Back to doing campaigns," he adds, before an actress who resembled Kim Cattrall's Samantha with the same iconic blonde shoulder-length bob walks past him. "Still got a type," he remarks. The video also delivers a playful nod to the memorable time Samantha threw sushi at Smith in the show.

The actor told People that the throwback references to his character were "really fun". He added: "Look, if you can't laugh at yourself, then you haven't really grown."

Jason starred as Smith in the sixth and final season of the original series. He then reprised his role in the 2008 Sex and the City film and the 2010 sequel. He's more recently starred in Midnight, Texas and Palm Swings, and appeared on the 2022 season of Dancing with the Stars.

Return to the limelight

The star, who now lives in Costa Rica, resurfaced on social media in May to tease his upcoming project. "Three years ago, I went quiet. Not because I had nothing to say but because I had something to do," he began his video, strolling on a beach. "The kind of creative work that doesn't leave room for much else, and I made my peace with that."

"And I'm far enough along now that it felt like it was time to resurface and share what I've been doing. More to come," he said.

He's working on a new project

A few days after his big return, the actor revealed that during his time away from Hollywood, he's been working on his next project: writing a nine-book fantasy book series.

The star opened up about his new venture to The Hollywood Reporter, likening his "epic fantasy" work as closer to Lord of the Rings than the science fiction genre. "It’s my own magic system based more in physics than the soft magic of casting spells and stuff like that," he explained.
