Canadian actor William Shatner rarely shares photos of his family on social media, but for Father's Day, he dug through his private family album for an adorable photo of him on great-grandfather duty.

The 95-year-old star is a doting dad to three daughters, a grandfather of five and a great-grandfather to two young boys. "There's nothing like celebrating Father's Day with your children, grand kids and great grandsons!" he captioned an ultra-rare picture of him and one of his great-grandsons on Instagram for Father's Day on Sunday.

"I hope you all had a wonderful day. My best, Bill," he added. William's great-grandson sweetly held on to his arm in a candid home snap that was seemingly taken by his the actor's daughter Lisabeth. While little is known about the actor's grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he previously shared that his great-grandson Clive was two years old in an article for The Times in 2022. That would make him around six years old now.

Fans were quick to comment on the actor's youthful appearance in his recent snap, with one questioning: "How does Bill look 20 years younger than he is?" Another said he "looks fantastic".

'Greatest joy'

William is a girl dad through and through with three daughters from his first marriage to actress Gloria Rand. The exes welcomed their first daughter, Leslie, 67, in 1958, followed by Lisabeth, 65, in 1961, and their youngest daughter Melanie, 61, in 1964.

"I must have been a hands-on dad because that's what my children tell me," the actor previously told The Guardian in 2014.

"In my mind, I was gone a lot of the time in an effort to make a living, so I am gratified that my kids think that they are who they are today because of my influence on them and my sense of being there for them – although it was only at weekends."

The actor said that being a grandfather "is the greatest joy for me". He added: "I have the time now to grab a grandchild and talk, and hug and kiss them and make sure that I'm taking time to be with them and to give them some aspect of the things I've learned. Family life is totally encompassing."

Family celebration

The actor celebrated a big birthday in March. He marked turning 95 in style, with photos taken by his daughter Lisabeth of him sitting by the beach and smoking a cigar.

"At 95, I'm still smokin'," he quipped in his caption. "I've learned two things: Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who says you should 'act your age'," he continued.

In an exclusive interview with HELLO! in April, William opened up about wanting to "stay healthy and functioning" as he gets older.
