Sean McCann is getting ready to step out onto the global stage; the 21-year-old confirmed to be competing at next month's Commonwealth Games.
Sean will be swimming for Scotland, which has confirmed a 25-strong team for the sport. Alongside Sean are Duncan Scott, Angharad Evans, Megan Barnes, Evie Davis, Dean Fearn, Scott Gibson, Archie Goodburn, Lucy Grieve, Luke Hornsey, Lucy Hope, Charlie Hutchison, Evan Jones, Stefan Krawiec, Evi Mackie, Keanna MacInnes, Holly McGill, Joshua Mitchell, Anna Morgan, Jensen Norris, Ciara Schlosshan, Katie Shanahan, George Smith, Matthew Ward and Emma Wood.
The Games, which take place in Glasgow from 23 July to 2 August 2026, will mark Sean's Commonwealth debut. According to Scottish Swimming, he previously competed in the Youth Commonwealth Games, competing in the 400 and 1500m Freestyle finals, although he didn't win any medals.
Speaking about his competitive journey, he once wrote: "At the age of ten, I was selected to swim at the City of Leicester, and I have since gone on to win multiple county titles, as well as becoming regional and national champion in my age group.
"In order to have achieved this, I have had to remain extremely dedicated, getting up at 4 am multiple mornings each week to train."
Sean and his twin sister Amelie were just two when their older sister, Madeleine, was abducted from a room where they were all sleeping during a holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, back in 2007.
What are the latest developments in the Madeleine McCann case?
Earlier this month, it was reported that British police were given several new documents on Christian Brueckner, the main suspect in Madeleine's disappearance.
The Mirror reported that a raft of evidence on the 49-year-old is said to be contained in a German dossier. Christian was released from prison last autumn after serving a seven-year sentence for the 2005 rape of an elderly American woman in Portugal.
He has been charged with several sex crimes including exposing himself to a child and three counts of rape between 2000 and 2017.
According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, police are hoping to amass evidence that is "strong enough" to extradite Christian, who is a German citizen, to the UK. However, there are legal barriers to the move, as Germany doesn't allow its citizens to be extradited to non-EU countries.
Christian has denied any involvement in Madeleine's disappearance.
