After more than 70 years of Grand Prix racing, Formula 1 has increasingly become a family affair as children look to follow in their fathers' footsteps onto the podium.
Due to the high financial barriers in getting involved with the sport, sometimes having your father's name can be seen as a bonus when attempting to get sponsorship.
So which stars on the grid have famous relatives elsewhere from the paddock? Scroll down to meet Formula 1's nepo babies, and see whether they lived up to the legacies they inherited.

Mick Schumacher
Perhaps F1's most famous nepo baby was Mick Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion, Michael Schumacher. Mick made his debut on the grid back in 2021 with the Haas team, but he only stayed in the sport for two seasons before getting dropped.
During his time in the sport, he only scored 12 career points, and was known for some costly crashes that brought his team's repair bill into the millions. The most notable was in Monaco in 2022, when he split the car in half. After being dropped from the grid, he remained as a reserve driver for Mercedes, although he never drove in a competitive role for the team. He had been suggested as a possible driver for the new Cadillac team that debuted on the grid this year, but they opted for the experienced line-up of Valtteri Bottas and Sergio Perez.

Max Verstappen
Another incredibly famous F1 nepo baby is Max Verstappen, the son of Dutch racing driver Jos Verstappen, who competed in the sport between 1994 and 2003. Jos has been heavily involved in his son's motoring career, reportedly briefly abandoning him at a petrol station when a young Max crashed out of a race when he was in contention for a victory.
Jos didn't have a stellar F1 career, only scoring 17 points during his time on the grid, and Max has vastly surpassed his father's record. The 28-year-old is a four-time world champion, winning 71 Grand Prix events and finishing on the podium a further 129 times. Max has recently indicated that he might be stepping away from the sport, but his place in its history books will remain forever.

Nico Rosberg
Nico is the son of Keke Rosberg, who competed in the sport between 1978 and 1986. Although Keke didn't always have the most impressive career, he did win the world championship back in 1982.
Nico joined the sport in 2006 and was with the Mercedes team when they started dominating the sport following technical changes. Although he was often in teammate Lewis Hamilton's shadow, in 2016, he managed to win the world championship, just like his father, before deciding to retire from the sport.

Lance Stroll
Although Lance Stroll's father, Lawrence, has never competed in an F1 race, the businessman famously owns the Aston Martin F1 team, which his son races for. Lance made his debut on the grid in 2017, before his father got involved in the sport, although Lawrence reportedly paid a hefty sum for Williams to take Lance onto their books.
Lance has had a mixed career in the sport, as while he hasn't appeared to ever be in a championship position, he has scored 325 points from 197 starts and has finished on the podium on three occasions. One of his largest career highlights came back in 2020 when he scored pole position at the Turkish Grand Prix, although he ultimately fell back to ninth position during the race.

Jacques Villeneuve
Jacques is the son of former Ferrari driver Gilles Villeneuve, who competed in the sport from 1977 until he died in a racing incident during qualifying for the 1982 Belgian Grand Prix. Gilles was widely respected on the grid, and he had a stellar career, including six wins and 13 podiums.
Gilles' son, Jacques, made his grid debut in 1996 and he raced in the sport until 2006. Jacques had an incredible opening to his F1 career, winning several races in his first season, and clinching the world championship in 1997. Although he remained with the sport until his retirement, he was never able to replicate these results, with his last win coming in his championship year.

Bruno Senna
Although Bruno isn't the son of an F1 legend, he's included on this list as the nephew of three-time world champion, Ayrton Senna, widely considered to be the greatest racer in the sport's history. Had he not died following a collision at the 1994 San Marino Grand Prix, Ayrton would likely have won many more championships.
Bruno made his debut in F1 back in 2010, and he competed until 2012, driving for the likes of HRT, Williams and Renault during his time in the paddock. Sadly, he never lived up to his uncle's incredible record, only scoring 33 points during his career.
