Kurt Russell's built a seriously star reputation on screen with hits like Tombstone, The Thing and Escape from New York. But his family is no exception to this red carpet reality, and even Kurt himself owes a little of his own big screen presence to a famous father. Bing Russell starred in several well-known mid-century features

Bing Russell

Born on 5 May 1926, Bing Russell started working on screen in the early '50s with NBC drama The Living Christ Series and Public Defender. 

He's best-known for subsequent roles in The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Horse Soldiers (1959) and Bonanza (1961–1973). He passed away in 2003, at the age of 76.

Kurt's mother Louise married Bing in 1946

Marriage to Louise

Louise 'Lulu' Russell was a passionate dancer and reportedly met Bing in 1945, the same year she was named Newport's Winter Carnival Queen.

The pair tied the knot in 1946 at the Newport Congregational Church, moving to Hollywood after Bing completed his studies at graduate school. She sadly passed in 2021.

Jill Russell is credited as a producer on several projects

While she didn't pursue an acting or producing career like her star father and brother, Jill Russell Franco has her own strong connections to the entertainment and sports worlds. 

She was previously married to acclaimed film producer Larry Franco, and she is the mother of former Major League Baseball player Matt Franco.

Kurt's sister Jody has had a profound impact on his on-screen work. He opened up to AARP, explaining that his performance in The Madison was influenced by his own experience of loss.

He told the magazine in March 2026, “Last year, my sister Jody died. [She] was a huge person in my life. But they say we’re all going to [die someday]. I don’t know if I’ve figured that out for myself yet. I don’t quite believe that."

Jami Way is the younger sister of actor Kurt Russell

Jami Way has kept much of her life private, keeping away from the spotlight entirelyInstead, she's heavily involved with Kurt's wine brand GoGi Wine. According to Santa Barbara News-Press, Kurt isn't just involved in the branding, Jami says it's a real passion project.

"He prunes and works harvest, he does punch downs, he works the bottling line, he even waxes the tops of the bottles,” his sister explained. “He’s obsessed.”

Kurt's own Hollywood family

Kurt has built his own (very sparkly) branch of the celebrity family tree. He and actress Goldie Hawn have been a couple for over 40 years, welcoming Disclosure Day star Wyatt Russell together.

He is also a father to son Boston Russell and a doting step-father to Goldie's children, actress Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson.
