She's the self-styled "Jenny from the block" but it was a different kind of block Jennifer Lopez was associated with on Sunday when she donned a hat so wide-brimmed at the men's Wimbledon final it was surprising play wasn't suspended for bad light.
Unlike at Royal Ascot, where statement hats and fascinators are part of the event's culture, spectators in the stands at Wimbledon are discouraged from wearing "oversized hats or other garments which could, in the reasonable opinion of the AELTC, restrict or interrupt the view or enjoyment of other attendees." This rule also applies to those in the Royal Box where "ladies are asked not to wear hats, as they tend to obscure the vision of those seated behind them."
While Wicked star Cynthia Erivo sat wearing a small woven hat in the row behind, it was of course Jennifer's head-borne marquee which commanded attention as it swooped to cover her shoulders, and those of Hollywood actor and The Night Manager star, Tom Hiddleston, who was seated next to her. In response to a post on HELLO! Canada, Heather wrote: "I'm surprised security didn't ask [Jennifer] to remove her hat. Wearing a hat is a huge no-no and I thought absolutely forbidden. Even the Royal Family never wear hats at Wimbleon due to the dress protocol."
To play devil's advocate, though, Jennifer did remove the hat later on, and does it not also behove such glamorous A-listers to be a little rebellious when it comes to their garb? And perhaps those around her were grateful for the extra shade she provided given the heat of the day? Over to you...
