What happened to Mathilde Favier?

Mathilde and her partner, French film producer Nicolas Altmayer died in a car accident in France on 17 August.

Nicolas Leclainche, the deputy prosecutor for the Niort prosecutor's office told the AFP that the couple's car "hit a heavy goods vehicle traveling in the opposite direction while they were overtaking another vehicle". An involuntary manslaughter investigation has been opened to determine the circumstances of the crash.

Among those who have paid tribute to Mathilde since her death was her daughter, Heloise Agostinelli. "I have no words to describe the pain I am in," she wrote. "My mom was my entire world. My life ended the day she took her last breath. I thank you all for your beautiful and heartfelt messages. I feel too weak and overwhelmed to respond to everyone.

"I'm hoping this is just a bad dream and I will wake up soon. Life is violent and unfair. Je t'aime ma maman, ma moon, ma vie entière. Resposes en paix mon ange éternel."
