Late music legend John Lennon has become a grandfather for the first time, 45 years after his death.
Sean Ono Lennon, The Beatles musician's only son with Yoko Ono, shared his surprise baby news on Wednesday with the most heartwarming photos of his bundle of joy. First-time dad Sean, 50, revealed on social media that he welcomed a son named Aurelius with his partner, Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
"@charlottekempmuhl and I have created a Human Bean! His name is Aurelius! Thank you!" Sean captioned a photo of his family-of-three as he cradled his newborn son in his arms.
The post was inundated with congratulations from the music community, including Will Smith's singer-songwriter daughter, Willow Smith, and Euphoria's Dominic Fike.
Sean looked besotted in a second photo of just him and his baby boy spending quality father-son time together. His partner Charlotte held their son on her chest in another sweet photo taken from the hospital, which many fans remarked was "beautiful".
"Beautiful photo. I swear your dad will be showering love all over you three," someone commented. "Such a beautiful photo of these two," another said.
"We made a human! Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code," Charlotte captioned more photos of their son sleeping and in a baby carrier on Instagram. "The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism…Burping technique tips welcome," she added, revealing the bub had already been getting an impressive music education, listening to Aphex Twin and Stravinsky.
Many fans gushed that the newborn was "so cute". "What a cutie!! So happy for y’all!" one person commented. Others were quick to point out the resemblance between Sean and his son. "I can already tell he looks like his dad and his grandpa," one person suggested, while another claimed the baby's "eyes without any doubt are Lennon".
A third remarked that Sean's late father, John, would be "so proud".
Sean has followed in his father's footsteps
Sean was only five years old when his father was tragically killed on 8 December 1980.
Speaking to Mojo4Music last year, Sean opened up about listening to unearthed tapes, including conversation his parents had, which were featured in the documentary film One to One: John & Yoko. "I grew up with a set number of images and audio clips that everyone's familiar with. So to come across things that I've never seen or heard is really deep for me, because it's almost like getting more time with my dad," he said.
Like his late father, Sean has pursued a career in music, carrying on John's musical legacy. In 2024, he collaborated with Paul McCartney's son, James McCartney, on a song called 'Primrose Hill.'
Sean previously shared how the loss of his father led him to following in John's footsteps as a musician. "I never played music because I was good at it," he told People.
He added: "I lost my father and I didn’t know how to fill that void. Learning how to play his songs on guitar was a way to process the loss with an activity that made me feel connected to him. When you’ve lost a parent, things like that motivate you – because you’re trying to find them. Making music always made me feel like I was getting to know him better."
Where is Yoko Ono now?
Yoko, now 93 and a grandmother once again, has lived a life away from the public eye for years.
While she lived in her famous apartment in New York for decades, according to the Daily Mail in 2023, she moved out of the home and relocated to a massive 600-acre farm in upstate Franklin. As per the publication's report, Yoko moved there full time.
Along with being a mum to Sean, Yoko has a daughter with her previous husband, Kyoko Ono Cox, and is a stepmother to John's son Julian from his marriage to Cynthia Lennon.
