Hollywood has long harboured a fascination with youth and beauty, with some of its biggest stars feeling the pressure to alter their appearance in the pursuit of youth and perfection.

But for some A-listers, their cosmetic procedures dramatically changed their features, making them instantly unrecognisable.

Join HELLO! as we take a look back at the dramatic before-and-after transformations of some of the industry's most famous faces.

Jennifer Grey

Jennifer Grey shot to superstardom after starring in 1987's Dirty Dancing and was instantly recognisable due to her stunning features, particularly her nose.

"After Dirty Dancing, I was America’s sweetheart, which you would think would be the key to unlocking all my hopes and dreams. But it didn’t go down that way," she wrote in her memoir, Out of the Corner.

Sadly, Jennifer faced intense pressure from the industry to undergo a nose job and so lost her signature look seemingly overnight.

"My so-called ‘problem’ wasn’t really a problem for me, but since it seemed to be a problem for other people, and it didn’t appear to be going away anytime soon, by default it became my problem," she continued.

“Overnight I lost my identity and my career," Jennifer added, claiming that even the paparazzi no longer recognised her, and neither did her friend, actor Michael Douglas, whom she saw at a premiere event after her rhinoplasty.

"That was the first time I had gone out in public. And it became the thing, the idea of being completely invisible, from one day to the next. In the world’s eyes, I was no longer me," the actress told People.

Mickey Rourke

Mickey was known for his roguish good looks and brooding charm, cementing him as a '80s Hollywood heartthrob. He started as an amateur boxer before embarking on his acting career, and decided to return to the sport in the early '90s after growing frustrated with the industry.

As a result, Mickey sustained several injuries to his face, and underwent plastic surgery to correct these issues, which led to a major transformation that left him unrecognisable.

"Most of it was to mend the mess of my face because of the boxing, but I went to the wrong guy to put my face back together," he told the Daily Mail in 2009. "I had my nose broken twice. I had five operations on my nose and one on a smashed cheekbone."

"I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn't healing properly," he explained.

"That was one of the most painful operations, but the worst was haemorrhoids." In the following years, Mickey reportedly got cheek implants, Botox and filler, causing him to lose his signature roguish look.

Melanie was one of Hollywood's most beautiful and talented stars, with her blonde locks and dazzling smile, yet the plastic surgery she underwent caused her face to transform completely into one that was virtually unrecognisable.

"I didn't [realise] until people started saying, 'Oh my god, what has she done?!' I was so hurt," she told Porter magazine.

"I went to a different doctor, and he started dissolving all of this s*** that this other woman doctor had put in. Hopefully, I look more 'normal' now."

Like Melanie, Courteney's signature features, including her beautiful smile and sharp cheekbones, began to transform with each cosmetic enhancement, until she recognised the need to reverse the work she had done.

"There was a time when you go, 'Oh, I'm changing. I'm looking older.' And I tried to chase that [youthfulness] for years," she told The Times.

"And I didn't realise that, oh s***, I'm actually looking really strange with injections and doing stuff to my face that I would never do now...People would talk about me, I think. There was a period where I went, 'I've got to stop. That's just crazy.'"

"I look at pictures of me from when I thought I looked okay, and I can't believe it," she later said on the Gloss Angeles podcast. "Thinking I was getting older when I was really young…that's just a bummer, a waste of time."

"You don't realise what it looks like to the outside person and just doing too many fillers and then having to have them removed, which thank God they are removable, but I think I messed up a lot and now luckily I can…I was able to reverse most of that, and now I'm actually just older."

Linda Evangelista

The supermodel dominated the catwalk in the '90s thanks to her out-of-this-world beauty and lithe figure, but everything changed in 2015 when she underwent several CoolSculpting procedures – a method that is designed to be the non-invasive alternative to liposuction.

Instead of freezing fat as she intended, the procedure left her with hard, painful lumps on her body that meant she could no longer work as a model. Linda went on to sue CoolSculpting's parent company, Zeltiq Aesthetics Inc., for $50 million, before settling the case out of court.

"I loved being up on the catwalk. Now I dread running into someone I know," she told People. "I don't look in the mirror. It doesn't look like me."

"Why do we feel the need to do these things [to our bodies]? I always knew I would age. And I know that there are things a body goes through. But I just didn't think I would look like this," she continued.

"I don't recognise myself physically, but I don't recognise me as a person any longer either. She is sort of gone."

Priscilla Presley

Priscilla was known as one of the most beautiful stars in Hollywood until a botched surgery she received in 2003 from a fraudulent doctor left her face damaged.

Daniel Serrano would inject his clients with industrial-grade silicone, the same used in car parts, for as little as $500, and even threw cocktail parties where people would line up to receive the injection.

The filler, which led to facial lumps, paralysis and cratered skin in his clients, permanently damaged Priscilla’s face, and Daniel landed in prison five years later.

"Priscilla Presley was one of many documented victims of Dr Daniel Serrano," said Priscilla's representative at the time of his arrest.

"An investigation which uncovered his misconduct ultimately led to his imprisonment. Ms Presley dealt with this matter years ago, and everything is now well."
