Keshia Chanté has been keeping big news under wraps – quite literally. For months, the Ottawa native has concealed her baby bump beneath oversized coats and carefully cropped photos. Now, she’s ready to let everyone in on her secret: she’s expecting her first child!
“I’m so excited,” the "Bad Boy" singer tells Hello! Canada. “I’m such a girlie girl. I’m always in pink. Everything is pink and pink and pink. So I thought I was gonna have a girl, but it’s a boy! I’m so excited for all the boy fashion!”
© Nick MerzettiAnd while Keshia, 38, has enjoyed being pregnant, there were definitely some rough patches, especially in the first trimester.
“I got my ass kicked,” she admits. “I couldn’t even hold down a sip of water. I ended up losing 14 pounds. Everything – every scent, every sound, everything – was overwhelming. I pretty much locked myself in my room for two months.”
Feeling better now, she's having fun with fashion – Rihanna being one of her maternity-style faves – and looking ahead to life with her little boy. “I just have this idea of being the mom who decorates the home and celebrates every holiday, and puts notes in his lunch box,” she says, happily. “I imagine myself being some sort of Disney mom.”
© Nick MerzettiWhen it comes to her relationship status with the baby’s father, Keshia isn’t letting that secret slip, though she does coyly confirm “I’m unavailable” – and says it was his idea for the pair to become parents. “I’m very free-spirited, and whatever the universe wants for me, I’ll have,” she says. “But he said he was ready. He set up the play and he nailed it! God bless him.”
The soon-to-be-parents confess that they already have musical aspirations for their little one and will get him into the studio as soon as he can “coo – and hold that note!”
Keshia is also hoping that her son inherits his father’s admirable traits. “He’s brilliant and super creative and just constantly doing things that I’m inspired by,” she says. “So I would love to see my son have his mannerisms and his swag.”
© Nick MerzettiSo what is on Keshia’s to-do list after Baby’s arrival? Eating plenty of sushi, lying on her stomach for the first time in months and getting back into a workout routine. Plus, making memories with her boy.
“My dream is to just be in the pool in a floaty with my kid and like listening to music and vibing, and I hope he's just a little water baby,” she muses.
“I’m looking forward to all the little moments – like when they coo and the first smile and the first step and the first laugh. I’m excited to take him to a music studio, take him to the beach. I want to be in my mommy-mogul era – we will see when that activates. I want my son to see his mom busy and doing what she loves.”
