Janine Turner rose to fame in the 1990s as Alaskan bush pilot Maggie O'Connell on the hit CBS series Northern Exposure. Her standout performance across the show's 110 episodes from 1990 to 1995 earned her an Emmy nomination and three Golden Globe nominations.
Janine, also known for playing Laura Templeton in General Hospital and Nancy-Beth Marmillion in the iconic 1989 comedy-drama Steel Magnolias, walked away from Hollywood in the late 1990s before eventually returning to acting.
Today, the 63-year-old co-hosts the podcast Northern Disclosure alongside her former co-star Rob Morrow. Together, they reflect on the acclaimed series that launched them to international stardom.
Janine frequently posts clips from the podcast on Instagram, looking as glamorous as ever nearly four decades after her breakout role.

Why Janine Turner left Hollywood
After welcoming her daughter, Juliette, in 1997, Janine took a step back from Hollywood and moved back to her native Texas to raise her as a single mother.
"CBS, they used to call me all the time, beg me to do a series and to move back to Los Angeles. But I'm like, 'Well, I have my daughter now,'" the actress told the podcast I Choose Me with Jennie Garth in 2025.
"I made a lot of sacrifices for my daughter," said Janine, who turned down a role in Chicago on Broadway because she didn't know who would "take care" of her child.
After Northern Exposure received a huge pickup order of 50 episodes, Janine felt the urge to move back to Texas.
"I wanted a pickup truck, a horse, a ranch, and I wanted to move back home," she said. "And I never knew that that was even lurking within me, but once I had sorta hit that pinnacle, it was what I wanted."
While Janine said she wouldn't trade the formative years spent raising her daughter – calling her "my joy and my gift" – she admitted to occasionally reflecting on the professional impact of that choice.
"You sit back now, it's kind of twiddling your thumbs saying, 'Did I sacrifice too much maybe?'" she said.
