After months of chatter, Jack Lowden has finally broken his silence on those 007 rumours.
Ever since Daniel Craig wrapped up his chapter as James Bond, fans have been chomping at the bit to find out who will succeed him as the world's most famous secret agent. Recent reports have narrowed the search down to a few frontrunners, including Jack, 36, who knows all too well how to play the part of a spy after doing so for six seasons on Slow Horses.
With rumours ramping up that Jack could be the next Bond after Gary Oldman said his "fingers are crossed" for his Slow Horses co-star to land the part, Jack has now addressed the highly anticipated casting.
In a new interview with British GQ, Jack said it was "all very flattering".
"It’s nice to be mentioned – for any role – and I’m just not really going to add to the noise," he added.
"It’s very nice, and Gary’s a sweetheart – it’s particularly lovely, coming from someone like him. But I don’t really listen to it." He continued: "As a young male actor, generally, the minute you’re not playing a zany artist type, the minute you’re in a suit, people fling it at you."
Gary Oldman is in Jack's corner
Gary caused quite a stir in September after he claimed that the next 007 had already been picked.
Speaking to Canadian broadcaster Global, Gary said that it had been rumoured his Slow Horses co-star Jack was "on the shortlist".
"We’re going to find out pretty soon, aren’t we? Because they have picked him. They have made their choice, but they have not announced it yet. So my fingers are crossed for Jack," he said.
Gary later set the record straight, clarifying that he does "not know" who has been cast. "There’s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumour that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative," he explained during an appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September.
He added: "So I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack."
Who are the rumoured frontrunners?
Screen tests for the next Bond have reportedly been well underway, with Callum Turner and Josh O'Connor's names being thrown around in recent reports alongside a fourth "mystery" actor.
Meanwhile, blonde bombshell Sydney Sweeney has received major support to be the next Bond Girl from a former star. Trina Parks, who was a Bond Girl opposite Sean Connery in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever, told The Telegraph that Sydney would make a "wonderful" companion for 007.
"She has done quite a range of acting things and basically has got ownership of her sexual identity," she said. "Not only is she a talented actress, but has this Hollywood classic kind of style and poise, which really works for her projects and brand."
