As Sao Paulo fashion week kicked off on Wednesday, Brazil's top designers proved there's plenty to look forward to for summer 2007. Elegant sundresses in brilliant hues made a bold and beautiful impact on the runways as did the metallic-inspired creations that continue one of this year's hottest trends.

The audience at the Iodice show was treated to a stunning collection of sophisticated swimwear cover-ups in sunshine shades. If the designs on the runway were anything to go by, next year's fashion savvy beach-goers will be leaving their kaftans at home. Instead, luxury sundresses are the ultimate in poolside chic – adorned with tropical floral designs in jewel-like shades of rich purples, turquoise, hot pinks and golden yellows. Hemlines were kept brief, with some designs revealing a flash of exquisite, embellished swimsuit underneath.

Elsewhere, one of Brazil's top streetwear brands, Zoomp, had opted for a more neutral palette of white and off-white, with flashes of shimmering silver detailing. There was something for day and night, from an urban-style combo of faded denim jeans and nude-hued vests with a spray-on silver effect to stunning silver mini-dresses for evening.
