The Duchess of Edinburgh was unfazed by the heatwave temperatures on Wednesday as she stepped out looking radiant in a floral summer dress for her royal engagements in Jersey. Duchess Sophie selected a white and pink sundress for the sunny day, which appears to be the 'Tara' dress by Lexy London, retailing for £235. Check out the gorgeous garment…
The cotton dress featured a sweet floral print all over, a V neckline and a floaty skirt, which draped to her ankles. To finish off the look, the royal re-wore her gold wedges from the day before, which have been identified as Jimmy Choo by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram.
Sophie's blue dress
On her first day in Jersey, she attended an NSPCC reception at Government House wearing a vibrant blue floral midi dress paired with those Jimmy Choo wedge sandals and a £3,500 Asprey gold bracelet, before later sporting a floral Penelope Chilvers blouse while touring Les Ecréhous and boarding a fishing boat.
Why is Duchess Sophie in Jersey?
The Duchess is the first ever known royal to visit Jersey's isle of Les Ecréhous, where she spent time learning about sustainable food production and environmental care. On Wednesday, she immersed herself in activities at EYECAN, a Jersey charity focused on supporting Islanders with sight impairment.
During her visit she played braille Lego with five-year-old Nevaeh Thorpe and tried on a pair of high-tech Ray-Ban Meta glasses. A different pair of glasses emulated cataracts and she used a cane to try and experience life as someone with a visual impairment. The royal also met with a friendly guide dog during her busy day and she stopped to give it some attention.
Eye health is something very close to Sophie's heart as her daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, was born with esotropia, a condition that causes the eyes to turn inward. This early experience inspired the Duchess to become an advocate for sight-saving causes across the globe.
A fashion faux pas?
Sophie has found success with her heatwave-approved dresses, but her Ascot look was one which caused a bit of a debate. The royal donned the 'Victoria Shirt Dress' from Suzannah London in black, and many questioned whether the sombre hue was an appropriate choice for the occasion, despite it not breaking any specific rules. We asked HELLO! Readers and 32 per cent of people thought that black wasn't right for the day.
