Aside from a folded bank note for the church collection on a Sunday, Queen Elizabeth II reportedly never carried cash. In contrast, we've seen Queen Camilla fumbling with a £20 note from the balcony of the royal box when she attended the final day of Royal Ascot. And if you look closely, you'll notice that it's not her husband's portrait on the tender - it's in fact her late mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.
The 78-year-old royal appeared to struggle with juggling the £20 note, her gloves and her iconic Lady Dior handbag. Perhaps it was her winnings that she was keen to stash away, although the week in general was full of disappointments for the royals when it came to the horses.
Earlier in the week, on Tuesday, King Charles and Queen Camilla's own horse, Reaching High, which was the favourite on the line, actually finished in last place. On Friday, it was a nail-biting watch as another of their horses, Warrant Holder, finished a close second, being beaten by a horse called Opportunity.
Prince Harry's comment on carrying cash
When Prince Harry played tourist in Los Angeles with his “local” tour guide, James Corden, for a TV sketch, he mentioned the well-known fact that royals don't carry cash. When James gestured that he should pay, Harry replied: “You know, us royals, we don’t carry cash," in a cheeky manner. Once onboard, the Duke said, “This is very nice. It’s the first time I’ve been on an open top bus.” Other royals like King Charles and Princess Kate have been known to carry cash on occasion in order to leave extra money behind the bar to treat various people.
Queen Camilla's bad habit
There was another moment when Camilla appeared to forget the world was watching at Ascot when she let a bad habit slip out.
In all of the nerves of one of the races, Camilla appeared to begin biting her nails as she watched on tensely. It was a brief moment, and she quickly resumed using her binoculars instead. It's the first time we've seen Her Majesty do such a thing, so perhaps it was just the nail-biting.
Other royal family members have been known to bite their nails too - including the late Princess Diana and her son Prince William. Plus, Meghan Markle once vowed to kick the habit in her lifestyle blog, The Tig. It's unknown if she still nibbles those nails or can resist.
