Mel C is married! The former Spice Girl said 'I do' on Saturday, exchanging vows with her long-time boyfriend, Chris Dingwall, at The Country House in Cumbria.
It was wonderful to see Mel's Spice Girl bandmates come together to celebrate the joyous union, with the notable exception of Victoria Beckham, who was in the USA watching the World Cup.
One photograph published by British Vogue saw Mel B, Emma Bunton, and Geri Halliwell-Horner surround Sporty Spice and smile happily at the camera.
Mel B wore a toffee-toned mini dress, and Emma chose a pastel pink, lightly checked suit. Geri, however, donned a white top and skirt, etched with a romantic floral print.
Although wedding guest etiquette is often open to interpretation, there are a few steadfast 'rules' that should be adhered to, and one is that the colour white should traditionally be reserved for the bride only. Wearing white could potentially upstage the bride and look a little confusing in pictures.
It seems that lots of fans agree. One follower quipped: "Geri couldn't give the colour white a rest for one day…" This comment generated over a thousand 'likes' with plenty of responses, including one follower, who added in agreement: "RIGHT?! Like, come on, you don’t do that as a guest at a wedding."
However, Geri has spoken publicly about the fact that she has a self-imposed white uniform pact, citing the colour as simple and easy to wear.
Mel's wedding dress
Mel's wedding dress may have been designed for her by her bandmate Victoria, but it turns out it actually belonged to her, too! Mel C and Chris also had a legal ceremony in the groom's native Australia ahead of the nuptials in Cumbria.
"I was actually having dinner with Melanie and asked her what she was up to," Victoria told British Vogue. "She very casually told me she was leaving for Australia in two days and getting married! When I asked what she was wearing, she mentioned she had actually ordered one of my dresses but that it didn't quite fit, and she didn't have time to get it altered before leaving," the mother-of-four revealed.
"I happened to have that exact dress in my own wardrobe and offered to lend it to her." Mel's dress is known as the 'Lace Cami Dress,' and Mel described the style as "the best, hands down. There's just something about her clothes… they have a real simplicity, especially the slip dresses. They’re really feminine, but in a way that feels comfortable, and very me."
Once VB resolved the sizing problem, Melanie had the sentimental ivory slip packed in her suitcase. "Victoria's dress was my something borrowed," she added. "It was very special, having her there."
