The politician was accompanied by his wife, Marie-France van Heel, on Thursday, as he was spotted in Manchester for an event with the Poppy Appeal, ahead of Remembrance Day.
Marie-France looked resplendent for the occasion, wearing a stunning tweed jacket, paired with a voluminous black skirt. The jacket in particular stole the show, featuring bold shoulder detailing and a plethora of gold statement buttons.
As soon as we saw the style, we couldn't help but be reminded of a stunning creation that former US First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis often wore. The wife of President John F. Kennedy was known for her incredible array of tweed pieces, and her regularly worn black offering was a truly timeless piece.
It seems that Marie-France is aware of the power a tweed piece brings; the style instantly dresses up casual, off-duty separates.
Marie-France and her high street hits
Although we've seen the fashion-conscious 56-year-old embrace designer threads on more than one occasion, she recently wore a sculpted high street dress from Karen Millen.
Stepping out at a Labour Party Conference in Liverpool last month, Marie-France donned the structured wrap-style bodice which gave the impression of a fitted waistcoat, creating a sophisticated two-piece illusion.
The asymmetric peplum hem was distinctively on trend, and the shawl-inspired lapel collar hinted at a corporate vibe.
A week earlier, Marie-France sported a simple, crisp-white shirt with a burgundy-toned, faux-leather pencil skirt which had a wrap-fronted waist detail, from high street store Next, costing just £46.
She did add a designer touch, though, pairing it with the famous 'Return to Tiffany' heart tag necklace, a sterling silver piece from the 2000s which was beloved by Millennials everywhere. Reese Witherspoon's character, Elle Woods, in Legally Blonde, catapulted this necklace into iconic territory when she wore it throughout the film. With the Y2K revival that's exploded onto the fashion scene in recent years, you can now pick up the original necklace on resale sites, or head to Tiffany, where a brand-new version is available.
