Not only is she nifty, but it turns out the Princess of Wales is also thrifty. The royal was joined by her husband Prince William on Thursday for an official engagement in Birmingham, stepping out in a regal burgundy midi dress from high-street favourite Karen Millen.

Her £183.20 dress featured a deep-V neckline, nipped-in belted waist and a pleated skirt, which the royal teamed with matching heels. However, we noticed that the princess made a subtle tweak to her elegant number, which you can see in the clip below, that seemingly went unnoticed by fans.

It appears that Princess Kate specifically altered the dress for her visit, removing the gold details from the waist tie detail on the dress. As you can see on the website, the dress came complete with gold hardware, yet perhaps this was a bit too much glitz for the royal’s wholesome outing.

However, that didn’t stop the royal from incorporating other gold elements into her aesthetic during the day. She accessorised her outfit with her beautiful Sezane 'Dina' earrings, which were rumoured to be a 2022 Christmas present from husband Prince William. The drop pieces are gold-plated brass earrings that subtly peeked out from under the royal’s chocolate tresses.

The remainder of their day saw the royal couple visit the UK's second city in order to celebrate its diverse culture and heritage. For their first engagement, they visited family-run restaurant The Indian Streatery.

The restaurant, which is home to an all-female chef team, started life as a street food stall in Digbeth and was a firm favourite at the Birmingham's Digbeth Dining Club.

Like his ever-sophisticated wife, Prince William also put on a sharp display, sporting a coffee-coloured blazer, a crisp blue shirt, navy trousers and tan-toned brogues for the occasion. He too opted for a tinge of metallic flair, slipping on a beautiful watch that boasted gold-silver tones and a navy blue face.
