Trooping the Colour has become one of the most closely watched style moments in Princess Kate’s calendar, charting her evolving approach to royal dressing across more than a decade. From her early years as the Duchess of Cambridge to her current role as the Princess of Wales, she has always returned to the event with looks that feel chic, considered and in step with its ceremonial setting.

Whether through soft pastels, sharp tailoring or some bolder colour choices, each appearance reflects a careful reading of occasion and context, while still feeling distinctly Kate. Here, we take a look back at her beautiful outfits over the years, which form a clear visual timeline of her public life.

The Princess of Wales was pictured on Saturday wearing the Lafayette coat dress by Catherine Walker for Trooping the Colour 2026. Choosing two of her most-loved designers, she styled the impeccably tailored coat dress with an elegant wide-brimmed hat by Philip Treacy, pearl earrings, and her Irish Guards Regimental brooch.

For 2025, Kate continued her affinity for elegant tailoring in shades of blue, turning to one of her go-to designers, Catherine Walker. She opted for the colour-block Bria coat dress, which was reminiscent of an outfit worn by her late mother-in-law Princess Diana back in 1988.

For Trooping the Colour 2024, Kate marked her poignant and powerful return following her cancer diagnosis in a chic white Jenny Packham dress, paired with a matching monochrome Philip Treacy hat. The look carried subtle symbolism, with the Princess paying tribute to the Irish Guards, of which she serves as Colonel-in-Chief, by wearing the Regimental Brooch.

In 2023, Kate wore a bespoke Andrew GN dress in striking emerald green for King Charles’ first Trooping the Colour as monarch. The structured design was paired with a Philip Treacy hat and Princess Diana’s sapphire earrings. The vibrant shade also once again paid tribute to the Irish Guards, for a look that was both symbolic and statement-led.

Kate brought a joyful energy to 2019 in a sunny yellow Alexander McQueen dress by Sarah Burton. For 2017, Kate wore a soft pink coat dress from Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton (the same designer who created her wedding dress). Known for her thoughtful approach to sustainable dressing, Kate revisited an Alexander McQueen coat dress previously worn for Princess Charlotte’s christening. The fit-and-flare design was styled with Philip Treacy’s OC 147 hat, proving her outfit repeats always feels intentional and elevated.

Shortly after the birth of Princess Charlotte, Princess Kate returned to Trooping the Colour in a beautiful printed Catherine Walker coat dress. The Astrid design had an elegant silhouette, which she paired with a bespoke Sylvia Fletcher hat from Lock & Co., while aquamarine diamond drop earrings added more colour. It was a confident return to public duties, delivered in one of her most trusted designers.

Kate chose a classic tailored look in the form of a light blue Alexander McQueen skirt suit for 2014. The outfit featured small skull motifs on the jacket, which was a modern nod to McQueen’s iconic detailing. She styled it with a dove grey clutch also by the brand, and Annoushka pearl drop earrings.

A standout style moment while pregnant with Prince George, Kate attended Trooping the Colour in a baby pink Alexander McQueen coat dress, elevated with oversized pearl buttons for a romantic finish. She kept accessories minimal, allowing the soft silhouette to take centre stage, and re-wore a Jane Corbett hat previously seen at a 2012 garden party. Pearl earrings and a box clutch completed the pretty look.

In 2012, Kate leaned into delicate pastel dressing with a bespoke Erdem design in pale blue. For her very first Trooping the Colour as the newly married Duchess of Cambridge, Kate opted for a crisp white coat by Alexander McQueen. The structured silhouette featured a pleated, tiered skirt that set the tone for her elegant royal wardrobe in the years to follow. She finished the look with a black Sylvia Fletcher hat for Lock & Co., a chic and elegant choice that remains one of her most recognisable early royal style moments.
