The Princess of Wales has slowly started to wear more bespoke fashion creations, but occasionally, she does opt for an off-the-peg item, giving the general public the chance to dress like the world's chicest royal.

Last month, Kate joined her husband, Prince William, to host the first Buckingham Palace garden party of 2026 on behalf of King Charles.

The royal couple looked resplendent in their finest attire as they led the festivities alongside the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, and their royal cousin, Zara Tindall. Mother-of-three Kate appeared in great spirits while chatting to attendees, wearing a stunning new outfit.

Donning one of her favourite brands, Self-Portrait, Kate stepped out in an enchanting white blazer dress. The elegant style was crafted with a gentle peplum, and the double-breasted number was finished with three-quarter-length sleeves and a Carrie Bradshaw-style corsage.

This looked wonderful teamed with the lightly pleated midi skirt, adorned with polka dots, which was expertly attached. The sleek shape and corsage were quite adventurous for Kate, who often stays away from micro trends when it comes to her public ensembles.

Princess Kate's dress is available now

If this style of dress is something you wish to invest in, you're in luck! It's just dropped on the brand's website, priced at £460, and all sizes are currently available, although it's a pre-order item due to high demand.

"Perfectly polished, a sculptural floral corsage lends oh-so-chic detail to this midi dress," the official website states. "A double-breasted cut frames the form above the playful polka dot skirt – pair with heels for every RSVP."

Why do royals wear bespoke items?

Although Kate's Self-Portrait dress can be purchased, this is quite a rarity, as many of her items are custom-made for the royal. "Royal outfits are seen by millions of people around the world, so custom pieces ensure the fit, length, and tailoring are absolutely perfect from every angle," award-winning stylist Susie Hasler tells HELLO! "Custom garments also tend to be more classic rather than trend-driven, which means she can repeat outfits for years without them feeling dated."

The royal wears a lot of custom-made ensembles

The princess has a calendar of events all over the world, and her outfits take careful planning. "Major events often require very specific dress codes or levels of formality," Susie explains, "and custom design allows every detail - from sleeve length to hemline - to be tailored appropriately."
