Queen Letizia of Spain's hair has undergone numerous transformations throughout her years in the royal spotlight.

These days, the 53-year-old styles her rich chocolate brown tresses in a below-the-shoulders length with the occasional curl or wave to add volume. While she's long remained a loyal brunette, back in her days as a new anchor in the early noughties, Letizia looked unrecognisable with a long bob haircut and caramel blonde highlights.

Before marrying King Felipe VI of Spain in 2004 and transitioning to life as a working royal, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano was an award-winning broadcast journalist and news anchor for CNN+ and Televisión Española. When she was on the air, Letizia sported a sleek shoulder-length haircut with warm highlights over a light brown base colour.

In one unearthed throwback photo from her time presenting TV news at Television Espanola in Madrid, which was shared following the news of her engagement to Felipe in November 2003, Letizia's hair was quintessentially Y2K with a graduated cut and face-framing layers that were curled inward at the ends.

She parted her hair slightly to the side and styled it smooth and straight for a polished, professional appearance.

Letizia's hair journey

Letizia has switched up her look on occasion, debuting a sharp jaw-length bob back in April 2015 while attending the Woman Awards in Madrid. She returned to a dark 'lob' in 2024 and in recent years started to proudly incorporate silver streaks in her hair.

Last December, Letizia channeled the Princess of Wales when she stepped out at the Royal Palace in Madrid for a gala dinner with her chocolate brown tresses in bouncy waves.

Her hair has grown out to well below her shoulders and is often worn in sleek ponytails when she's out and about or down naturally straight or in tumbling curls for a more glamorous appearance.

Recently, Letizia looked effortlessly elegant for an annual family gathering with her dark brown locks straightened to look extra long.

The royal attended the summer reception at Marivent Palace on 4 August in a chic white midi dress by Spanish label Sybilla and metallic Aquazzura leather sandals, as identified by Royal Fashion Police on Instagram. Letizia's hair was swept in a side part and styled in natural waves for the night.

Meanwhile, her daughter Princess Leonor opted for a much more voluminous hairstyle for the special occasion. The young royal stunned with her long brunette hair in loose, textured waves with plenty of natural volume.
