The Duchess of Sussex has worn a variety of stunning dresses throughout her time in the public eye, and one of her go-to fashion designers is French designer Roland Mouret. The French couturier, who was responsible for creating the iconic 'Galaxy' dress in the early 2000s, and the former Suits star have always had an incredible bond, but it appears the pair may have suffered a bump in the road when it comes to their friendship.
Discussing an argument the pair allegedly had in his new memoir, which is released next week, the designer reveals a mishap took place. Supposedly, one of his members of staff contacted the Princess of Wales' team at Kensington Palace to ask for some items of clothing back, instead of Meghan's team directly. Catherine has been wearing Roland Mouret designs since 2013.
Describing his version of events, the designer wrote: "Meghan and Harry's relationship became public. Then the same team member who had sent the clothes for Meghan decided, in an honest attempt to be efficient, to call Kate's stylist at the palace and ask for Meghan's dresses to be returned. Meghan was furious and called me."
Roland alleges that he said to Prince Harry's wife: "Meghan, it was just a mistake by someone who didn't know. My apologies. I know it's not good for you and you want to do things privately."
The mother-of-two allegedly replied: "You know now I can never wear your clothes again."
Roland also said in the book he believed that Meghan went on to wear a copy of one of his designs publicly.
"The following year, I saw a photo of her out in a cheap high street copy of one of my designs. I messaged her: 'I can understand if you don't wear my stuff, but if it's to wear a cheap copy then that's ridiculous. Come back.'"
He claims Meghan responded: "I think I should come and see you."
How did Meghan Markle and Roland Mouret meet?
Meghan and Roland were often seen enjoying lunch dates together before she met Prince Harry, which she documented on her old Instagram account for her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig.
At one point, Roland was rumoured to be the one to design her wedding dress. Meghan previously spoke about her relationship with him. "This man in a bathrobe said, 'I love to dress you,'" she said. "I thought, 'Whaaat?' Then he told me who he was and we've been friends ever since," she remarked to Fashion Magazine in 2016. Equally, Roland has a lot of time for Meghan, too. He remarked to the New York Post: "Meghan knows really well what she likes and the main thing with Meghan is to listen to her and work in collaboration with her," he revealed in 2018.
