Dame Elizabeth Taylor has just inked a deal with publishing giant Simon & Schuster to pen a tell-all book about her enviable jewellery collection and the men behind each extravagant gem. The illustrated tome, entitled Elizabeth Taylor: My Love Affair With Jewellery, won’t hit stores until next autumn, but Liz promises to include juicy anecdotes on her Hollywood excesses and glorious photos of the pricey stones.
“I’m so excited to be able to share the moving, funny and beautiful memories behind these pieces of jewellery,” says the eight-times married Cleopatra beauty. The book will likely include 100 full-color photographs, including shots of some never-before-seen pieces from Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier and Bulgari.
According to publisher Michael Korda, the eagerly-anticipated story “will offer the public the rare opportunity to experience one of the most illustrious private jewellery collections in the world from one of the most remarkable women in the world”. And despite Hollywood’s penchant for hyperbole, rest assured Korda is not exaggerating: the Oscar winner’s jewels have been appraised by both Sotheby’s and Christie’s and are said to form one of the finest private collections in the world.
Few details on the deal were disclosed, though insiders say the grande dame will probably take home half of all profits generated from sale of the book.
