Jennifer Beals looked incredible in a sheer dress as she appeared in a New York rooftop video promoting her latest television project, NCIS: New York.

The actress, 62, featured in the Instagram reel ahead of the show's October 6 premiere, 43 years after her breakthrough performance in Flashdance.

The clip showed Jennifer moving around the rooftop in the statement outfit, offering a glamorous glimpse of the star as she prepares to introduce audiences to a new character.

Her latest part will see her swap Alex Owens' dreams of a dance career for the responsibility of running a team of federal agents, joining two familiar television faces in the expanding NCIS franchise.

Jennifer Beals' new television role

Jennifer plays Assistant Special Agent in Charge Robyn Wells, who oversees the NCIS New York field office. Robyn relies on her instincts and has earned the respect of the agents she leads.

The series brings LL Cool J's Sam Hanna back to his hometown following his years on NCIS: Los Angeles. He partners with Scott Caan's Nick Schaeffer as their team tackles investigations in the city and its ports.

The Flashdance role that changed everything

Jennifer was still a teenager when she landed the role of Alex Owens in Flashdance, released in 1983.

The film followed a young woman balancing work as a welder with her ambition to train as a dancer. Its combination of romance, dance sequences and an enduring soundtrack helped make Jennifer a recognisable face around the world.

Her performance earned her a Golden Globe nomination and an NAACP Image Award. However, she continued her education alongside the opportunities that followed, graduating from Yale University in 1987 with a degree in American literature.

The years since have brought a varied screen career, including Devil in a Blue Dress, The Book of Eli and Luckiest Girl Alive. Her television work has also included The Chicago Code, Taken and a role in the Star Wars series The Book of Boba Fett.

Finding another defining role in The L Word

For another generation of viewers, Jennifer is particularly associated with Bette Porter, the ambitious art-world figure she played in The L Word.

The original series ran from 2004 to 2009. Jennifer later returned for The L Word: Generation Q, which aired from 2019 to 2023, revisiting the character more than a decade after the original show's conclusion.

Her involvement extended beyond acting, with Jennifer also serving as an executive producer on the revival.

She has since revisited that chapter through photography. Her book, The L Word: A Photographic Journal, draws on the photographs she took behind the scenes, giving viewers a different perspective on the series and the people who made it.

Another new role on the horizon

NCIS: New York is not Jennifer's only upcoming television appearance.

She is also joining the third season of Percy Jackson and the Olympians as Demeter, with the new episodes arriving on Disney+ on November 20.

Disney confirmed her casting alongside other additions to the show's mythological world, including Ming-Na Wen as Hera and Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite.

The season adapts Rick Riordan's The Titan's Curse, following Percy on a new quest after Annabeth disappears. For Jennifer, it adds a very different character to a busy autumn, taking her from contemporary New York investigations to the world of Greek gods.
