Tom Cruise’s appearance at this year’s Oscars without his girlfriend, actress Penelope Cruz, led to speculation there might be trouble between the pair. And though it was said that the Mission: Impossible star went solo out of respect for ex-wife and Oscar nominee Nicole Kidman, it appears now that Tom and his Spanish sweetie may have split up.
The two haven’t been seen in public for some time – a noticeable switch from their hand-in-hand red carpet appearances for the premieres of Vanilla Sky everywhere from Madrid to Tokyo last winter. Penelope has not commented on reports she and Tom have called it quits on their year-long relationship, which sparked on the set of the Cameron Crowe thriller. Tom's lawyer Bertram Fields on Thursday insisted, however, that the couple “are fine”, adding: “There has been no split.”
Fuelling the rumour mill is the fact that Pen recently purchased a $1.6 million, three-bedroom Manhattan flat, apparently planning to move out of her famous boyfriend’s Beverly Hills digs. She also recently appeared at the Festival of Cinema in Paris alongside friend and All About My Mother director Pedro Almodovar, while Tom stayed home Stateside.
