Georgia May Foote to join Strictly: 'I can't wait to get started'

The latest celebrity contestant to hot "foote" it on the Strictly dance floor has been revealed – actress Georgia May Foote. The former Coronation Street star, who is best known for playing the role of Katy Armstrong, is the fourth dancer to join this year's line-up.

"I am so excited to be part of Strictly 2015!" said Georgia. "It is something I have always wanted to take part in and now I just can't wait to get started! I love dancing and I love a challenge so this is the perfect experience for me."

The big reveal was announced live on television on Thursday morning, with Georgia making an appearance on BBC Breakfast.

Georgia May Foote is best known for playing the role of Katy Armstrong on Coronation Street

Shortly after she told her 263,000 Twitter followers: "So the secret is out! So excited to be part of @bbcstrictly 2015! Eeeek! Thanks for all your messages!"

The 24-year-old is no stranger to the cameras. Manchester-born Georgia has been appearing on the small screen since 2004, in a number of well-known British TV shows such as Life on Mars, Doctors, Casualty, Heartbeat, Emmerdale and This Is England 86.

The actress joins Kellie Bright, Ainsley Harriott and Jeremy Vine on the Strictly line-up

Perhaps her most famous portrayal was on Coronation Street, where she played Katy for five years. Her storylines mostly revolved around her relationship with Chesney Brown, becoming a mother to their son Joseph, and beginning an affair with Ryan Connor.

Georgia left the show in March of this year.

Around the same time, the actress made headlines for the end of her engagement to her teenage sweetheart John Sage. Georgia and John got engaged in 2013 and lived together in Bolton, but at her Corrie leaving do, the actress reportedly told co-stars that the pair had split.

Sean Ward and Georgia started dating shortly after she left Corrie in March

She has since moved on with 26-year-old actor Sean Ward, who joined Corrie last year as bad boy Callum Logan. Sean also announced his girlfriend's big news on Twitter, writing: "At last I can tweet @georgiafoote is to star on @bbcstrictly (Cue Rocky theme tune music) #theglovesareoff #JazzHands."

Georgia joins EastEnders' Kellie Bright, celebrity chef Ainsley Harriott and presenter Jeremy Vine as celebrity contestants on the next series of Strictly.
