John Bishop looks completely different in throwback to early career

The comedian is fronting his new documentary Great Whale Rescue

He's best known for making us laugh with his fantastic stand-up performances, but now John Bishop has turned his skills to wildlife for brand new ITV documentary, John Bishop's Great Whale Rescue. The show follows the comedian's mission to return Little White and Little Grey from captivity to the Icelandic beluga whale sanctuary.

John has been known and loved for his career in showbiz since the early 2000s, and looks certainly different in this epic throwback snap!

The picture, taken in 2005, shows John in his early stand up days before his turned to presenting. John began his career performing at Edinburgh Fringe Festival before going on to land solo stand-up gigs for popular shows such as Live At the Apollo and the Royal Variety Performance.

As well as his this week's whale rescue documentary, John has fronted a number of other different shows over recent years including John Bishop's Britain, John Bishop's Only Joking and John Bishop's Gorilla Adventure. But it seems his most recent project has left viewers feeling emotional.

The comedian took to Twitter to thank fans for watching, writing: "Thank you everyone for the support for tonight’s documentary on @itv. Tomorrow is filled with more twists and turns and is well worth watching at 9pm. It has been an epic project to be part of and I feel very, very lucky to have had that experience."

One person replied underneath: "Absolutely sensational. Heartbreaking what they have been through, a world that's not natural and free. Conservation is a rollercoaster like no other. Full of joy one minute and pain the next. Well done John for highlighting something so deeply important."

John has appeared in plenty of shows over the years

A second person echoed this thought, tweeting: "Last night's documentary when Little White & Little Grey remembered you, really got me, I cried and thought how cruel/selfish some humans are. The sound of separation from each other was heart wrenching. Thank God for you."

While a third fan wrote: "Absolutely amazing - I was gripped from the first minute. Little white and little grey are 2 beautiful characters, I just fell in love. My heart melted when they greeted you with a kiss."
