Are you looking for a truly bone-chilling thriller that's worth a spot on your 2026 watchlist? Apple TV's upcoming movie, What Happens at Night, starring Leonardo Dicaprio and Jennifer Lawrence, should be your top contender.
Based on the 2020 novel by Peter Cameron, the film follows an American couple who travel to a mysterious European town to adopt a baby. In a first-look picture, the couple is shown walking curiously over snow-covered ground while holding onto each other's arms.

Martin has collaborated with Leonardo multiple times before, on acclaimed titles including Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, Killers of the Flower Moon, Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed.

With a screenplay by Patrick Marber (Alan Partridge, The Day Today), the film centres on the couple as they travel to Europe in search of their adoptive baby.
The book synopsis reads: "Nothing is as it seems in this baffling, frozen world, and the more the couple struggles to claim their baby, the less they seem to know about their marriage, themselves and life itself."

Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence star as the married couple, whose character names have yet to be revealed.
They're joined by Mads Mikkelsen (Hannibal), Patricia Clarkson (Shutter Island) and Jared Harris (Mad Men).

While Leonardo has worked with Martin several times, this film marks Jennifer's first collaboration with the Oscar-winning director. Speaking ahead of filming on Variety's Actors on Actors, Jennifer asked Leonardo what it was like to work with Martin.
"It's a great thing, and he's going to give you a lot of film references," Leonardo said. "They usually come in the form of a DVD. And if you don't have a DVD player, get one… he'll have screenings sometimes for just one sequence in a movie.

We might see some Japanese ghost films for reference, just to get the tone of it. You're going to have an amazing time."
When Jennifer asked the Titanic actor if he was "really excited" to work with her again, he replied: "Who isn't?"
