Helen Mirren has spoken out amid rumours of a feud between her and her MobLand co-star Tom Hardy

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Venom actor had been fired from the Paramount+ crime drama after two seasons due to a falling out with executive producer Jez Butterworth and producer David Glasser. It was also reported that he was frequently late to arrive on-set and insisted on changes to the script, causing friction between him and his co-stars Helen and Pierce Brosnan

Taking to Instagram on Thursday, the Oscar-winning actress, 80, appeared to shut down the rumours, sharing a photo of Tom alongside the caption: "Love you now and always."

More details emerge

On Thursday, Variety challenged the reports which originally appeared in the industry newsletter Puck. The publication stated that Tom had not been fired from the show and that Tom, Jez and David are currently trying to resolve their issues.

The publication also reported that there was no friction between Helen and Tom.

The original report

The claims first appeared in a Puck newsletter written by Matthew Belloni, the former Editorial Director of The Hollywood Reporter.

"I'm told Paramount recently opted not to pick up Hardy for season three after his clashes with producers Jez Butterworth and David Glasser, among others, during the recent production of season two," he wrote.

Tom's previous on-set clashes

This isn't the first time Tom has reportedly clashed with his A-list co-stars. Most famously, his alleged tardiness on Mad Max: Fury Road led to tension with co-star Charlize Theron, who was reportedly left waiting on set for hours.

Reflecting on the experience, Tom previously admitted to New York Times columnist Kyle Buchanan: "In hindsight, I was in over my head in many ways. The pressure on both of us was overwhelming at times.

"What she needed was a better, perhaps more experienced partner in me. That's something that can't be faked. I'd like to think that now that I'm older and uglier, I could rise to that occasion."

What is MobLand about?

The series, written by creator Ronan Bennett (Top Boy, The Day of the Jackal) and Jez Butterworth (Ford v Ferrari, Spectre), follows two mob families who "clash in a war that threatens to topple empires and lives."

The synopsis continues: "Caught in the crossfire is Harry Da Souza, the street-smart 'fixer' as dangerous as he is handsome, who knows too well where loyalties lie when opposing forces collide.

"As kingdom goes up against kingdom, lines will be crossed – and the only saving grace is a bet-your-life guarantee: family above everything."

Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren lead the cast, alongside Joanne Froggatt, Paddy Considine (House Of The Dragon), Lara Pulver (Da Vinci's Demons), Anson Boon (Pistol) and Mandeep Dhillon (CSI: Vegas).
