With autumn in full swing, there's a brilliant line-up of gripping new series to keep us entertained as the evenings get darker and the temperature drops. One show you should have on your radar is the BBC's flirty spy thriller, Honey.
The darkly comedic six-part series, which comes from the makers of Killing Eve, follows 24-year-old MI6 agent Martha, who while deep undercover in 1980s East Berlin finds herself caught in the middle of a dangerous love triangle between Friedrich, the new Stasi Head of Counter-espionage against British Targets, and CIA operative Aaron Neeland.
Blending high-stakes espionage with steamy romance, Honey is shaping up to be a must-watch in November. Keep reading to find out more.
What is Honey about?
Set against the backdrop of 1980s East Berlin, this "tender" and "dangerous" series explores the "shadowy world of counter-espionage and risky but irresistible relations".
The synopsis continues: "East Berlin, 1982. Martha (pronounced Marta), 24, is a deep cover agent for MI6. Surrounded by enemies and constantly under threat of her cover being blown, she tries her hardest to avoid detection by Friedrich, the new Stasi Head of Counter-espionage against British Targets, Berlin Office. Finding herself caught between Friedrich and the reckless, arrogant (and incredibly attractive…) CIA operative Aaron Neeland (posing as Kurt Fischer), she is blind-sided by desire in this Cold War menage-a-trois.
"The risk of being garrotted or incarcerated is nothing compared to the horrifying ordeal of falling in love. Allowing yourself to be vulnerable and bearing your heart and soul? She'd rather have her fingernails pulled out."
The series is penned by Emma Moran (Extraordinary), alongside Emme Hoy (Sweetpea).
Who stars in Honey?
Ann Skelly, known for her roles in House of Guinness and The Nevers, stars as Martha Schmitt.
She's joined by Nate Mann (Masters of the Air, Licorice Pizza) as Kurt Fischer, Jannis Niewöhner (Munich: The Edge of War, Napoleon) as Friedrich Baumann, and Rory Kinnear (The Diplomat, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power) as Graham Anderson.
How to watch Honey
