The Modern Family star flaunted her new 'do in a striking selfie, wearing her hair down in a loose, slightly messy style. "Back to black," she wrote in the caption to her 2.1 million followers.

It wasn't just her hair which caught her fans' attention. Ariel floored her followers with her radiant complexion as she chose to go make-up free for the snap, looking the epitome of laidback chic in a plain white vest top.

The Modern Family actress has been rocking red hair in recent months

Ariel first decided to dye her hair red in March, when she finished filming the seventh season of Modern Family. The actress, who plays Alex Dunphy in the hit TV series, excitedly gave fans a sneak peek of her look with a short video on Instagram as she left the salon. "I'm now a [strawberry emoji]," she quipped in the caption.

She was clearly pleased with her look, returning to social media just a few hours later to share a selfie giving her fans a closer glimpse at her bold new hair colour.

The star shared the touching meaning behind one of her tattoos

Ariel is renowned for her fearless approach to beauty, often turning heads with her edgy hair and make-up looks. The star also has a series of inkings, and recently explained why the one on her ribcage is her "most special tattoo".

"My second and most special tattoo, the initials of five of the most important beings in my life: my nieces and nephew," she wrote in a heartfelt post on Instagram, alongside a black-and-white snap of the artwork. "Their initials are on my ribcage, on the side where my heart is," she explained.

The doting aunt added: "They are my inspiration, and my reason for living. Love these babies more than anything and proud to have their initials forever on my body."
