Elizabeth Hurley attends breast cancer event after raising awareness with mammogram selfie

Elizabeth Hurley has been raising awareness of breast cancer in many ways recently.

After sharing a snap of herself getting her annual mammogram, the actress has attended the 2014 Breast Cancer Research Foundation's Hot Pink event. The 48-year-old graced the pink carpet in a Grecian style halter neck floor-length gown of the same colour.

She was joined by Linda Holliday, Bill Belichick, Donna Karan and Leonard for photographs as she arrived at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel on Monday in New York City. Inside the venue she posed with musicians Sara Bareilles and Elton John and shared on Twitter that evening how she was enraptured by Sara’s rendition of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road at the gala.

Earlier she’d shared snaps of her getting ready for the bash and told fans in a poignant message: "Breast cancer is 95% curable if detected early."

It came after she had shared a snap of herself getting checked for signs of the deadly disease on her social networking account.

"After 40 you should have an annual mammogram. Had mine this morning. It's always nerve wracking but remember..." she warned.

Sara shared that she would never forget her experience of singing with Elton that night. Around the same time she announced a new tour with more details to follow in the near future.

"It's happening. #littleblackdresstour," she tweeted. "Dates announced next week. Coming to you with no pants. Wait.…"

Elton was a returning guest at the party, attended by musician and actor Josh Groban. The Unsung Hero award was given to Cindy Citrone, who the organisation describes as "an extraordinary champion for research and friend to those with breastcancer."

They also thanked supporters via their micro-blogging account as well as Elizabeth who they claimed "is a rock star for returning each year to show her support".
