Is it just us or has 2018 gone a bit nineties crazy? Scrunchies are back in fashion, Victoria Beckham recently wore a camouflage tee and now nail art has gone retro with a throwback to the nineties' fluorescent craze. Remember those bright jelly shoes you wore on the beach age 10? Well, they've inspired a new nail polish trend and social media is mad about it right now. It all kicked off when Kylie Jenner posted a snap of jelly nails on her Instagram page, which racked up over four million likes. The jelly nail look involves vibrant see-through shades – a totally new style for nails.

Search for jelly nails on Instagram and you'll see almost 4000 photos of arty inspo. There's everything from fun glitter jelly nails (we definitely had shoes like that) to patterned nails aptly named 'jelly fish'. We love the bright blues, yellows, pinks, greens and reds – such a different look from the nude tones of spring and a statement look for summer festivals.

So how do you get the jelly nail look? It involves a trip to the nail bar where they first apply an opaque base to the nails then stick on acrylic see-through nails which give the jelly effect. Or you can order jelly nails online and apply at home.
