It's World Earth Day on 22 April, which is our chance to show support for environmental protection – and just like many of us, the royal family are striving to do their bit to help the planet.

Royal children, in particular, are growing up with an eco-friendly mindset thanks to their parents teaching them about sustainability and protecting the earth from a young age.

The school's website reveals that each year group from Reception to Year 8 has an Eco Team, which is a marvellous idea. There is also a co-curricular programme called CARPE, where pupils can take part in activities relating to the environment.

In addition, once a week Prep School pupils have an enrichment afternoon where they can learn about such topics as farming and bee keeping.

August's non-plastic toys

During the recent World Economic Forum event in Davos, Princess Eugenie revealed that she and her husband Jack Brooksbank raise their son August, age two, in a plastic-free home to help the planet.

Eugenie, who is expecting her second child, said: "At home we have no plastic, we try to as much as possible have no plastic and I'm trying to teach him that. But it's a battle."

The royal mother had a plastic-free wedding in 2018, and said of her son August: "My son's going to be an activist from two years old, which is in a couple of days. Everything is for them, right?"

She added: "Every decision we now make has to be about how August is going to be able to live his life."

Archie's veggie patch and chicken run

Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle raise their two children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one, in a stunning property in Montecito, California, where they grow their own vegetables and keep chickens.

In the couple's Netflix docuseries, Harry & Meghan, the environmentally-friendly vegetable patch was revealed when the camera recorded one of their pet dogs outside, next to the growing veg.

It's likely that Archie likes to help out with the gardening, as we've previously seen the royal child tending to the chickens in what the family refer to as 'Archie's Chick Inn'.

Prince George goes litter picking

During an interview with BBC Newscast, Prince William opened up about his nine-year-old son's litter picking outing with his former school, Thomas's Battersea.

William revealed"So George at school recently has been doing litter picking and I didn't realise but talking to him the other day he was already showing that he was getting a bit confused.

"[He was] a bit sort of annoyed by the fact they went out litter picking one day and then the very next day, they did the same route, same time and pretty much all the same litter they picked up was back again.

"And I think that for him he was trying to understand how and where it all came from. He couldn't understand, he's like, 'Well, we cleaned this. Why has it not gone away?'"

Back in June 2022, Princess Kate's daughter Princess Charlotte showed she is taking after her royal mother when it comes to sustainable fashion.

At the late Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, Charlotte joined her parents for an appearance at Cardiff Castle and wore a dark blue coat which she has worn at another occasion.

We also saw the coat - which features a Peter Pan collar and pretty button detailing down the front -at Prince Philip's service of thanksgiving in March 2022, when Charlotte teamed it with a pretty smock dress in green tartan.
