Get the look: Applying self-tan – without the orange palms

One of the biggest problems with applying self-tan is the tell-tale orange palms created by an overload of product that starts to develop as you slick it on over the rest of your body.

The most obvious solution is to wear thin Latex gloves, but we haven't found any we like that are sold on their own. St Tropez's seem to slip and slide, making even application difficult, for instance. The gloves that come with Fake Bake are perfect, but don't last as long as the number of applications you get out of a bottle – and you can't buy them separately.

We've found that by washing hands after every limb or section of the body – so you do one leg or arm or the torso then wash with soap immediately – you remove the self-tan before it starts to develop on hands and still get great, even coverage. Just make sure you dry hands thoroughly before moving on because any dampness will dilute the self-tan formula and cause patchiness on the body.
