Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia of Sweden attended the concert "Christmas in Vasastan," at Gustaf Vasa Church

During the concert, Christmas music was performed by, among others, Fredrik Benedict Nybladh, Molly Sandén, Linda Lampenius, Janne Schaffer, Anna Sahlene and the choir Laudes. The event which took place in Stockholm’s trendy Vasastan district on December 21, saw Sofia championing yet another knockout couture designer, following her stylish appearances at the Nobel Prize Gala.

Sofia stuck to the royal protocol of a tonal hues and a demure outfit, opting for all navy for the occasion in a stunning blue midi-dress. Couples that slay together obviously stay together, as her husband Prince Carl Philip opted for a matching navy tie which coordinated with her ensemble.

Sofia flew the flag for Swedish design, donning an embroidered brocade organza dress Swedish from couture designer Lars Wallin, who has a long history of dressing members of the Swedish royal family (more on that later.) She paired it with navy suede ‘Denise’ pumps from Stockholm-based shoe designer Stinaa J. and a matching Marzio Stockholm velvet flap clutch in navy.

Who is Lars Wallin?

Established 1990, by designer Lars Wallin the opening of the eponymous couture house marked the start of his career as Sweden’s only ‘true couturier.’ In 1995 Lars was awarded with the prestigious Guldknappen from Sweden’s leading women’s fashion magazine Damernas Värld only five years after starting his label.

The very first design that Lars Wallin created for the Swedish court was the dress that Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden wore at the Nobel banquet in 2000. It was a momentous occasion in Lars’ career given that the Nobel banquet is viewed by millions around the world and it was the Crown Princess herself wearing the dress. Victoria has actually worn  the gown on several occasions since the banquet.

Lars Wallin has designed many dresses for the members of the court since then. His personal favourite, according to an admission on his website, is the ice blue dress Crown Princess Victoria wore at the Nobel banquet of 2003, “It had a very grandeur and royal feeling to it,” Lars explains. Lars incorporated some historical aspects by choosing fabrics in the same colour as the Royal Order of the Seraphim.

He has also designed more than 150 pieces of stage clothing for the ballet Gustav III that was performed at the Swedish Royal Opera, and in 2022 he was chosen by Stockholms Fashion District as the winner of the Encouragement for Action price for Sustainable Identity. The award was given to him for “always maintaining focus on well-tailored garments of high quality with the longest possible lifespan, while at the same time raising awareness about sustainable choices.”
