With her enviable wardrobe and an array of beautiful jewels and tiaras, Sweden's Princess Sofia is considered one of Europe's most stylish royals. So it will come as a surprise to many to learn that Prince Carl Philip's pregnant wife has been named Hillbilly 2015 by a rural website - and what is more, she is "flattered" by the title.

Visitors on the Swedish website Land voted Sofia 'Lantis 2015', which literally translates as 'Hillbilly 2015'. "I feel honoured and flattered," the Duchess of Värmland is quoted as telling the site. "Lantis of the year is a fine distinction."

The 31-year-old, who due to welcome her first baby in April, does hail from a remote rural area in central Sweden, and in October she made an emotional return to Älvdalen, in Dalarna County where she grew up.

Sofia was moved to tears as she spent time in her home town for the first time since becoming a member of the Swedish royal family.

"Dalarna has a very important place in my heart and especially Älvdalen," she told the crowds during her visit. "Here, I've spent many years and it largely shaped me as a person… Dalarna is very beautiful, I am not only thinking of the nature, but also of the beautiful people here."

The princess also apologised to locals for not speaking to them in the traditional Norse dialect of Elfdalian, which she described as a "unique language".

"Sadly I grew up as part of a generation where (learning to speak Elfdalian) was not particularly cool," she admitted. "So I've got a lot of homework to catch up on to be a true Älvdaling."
