7 times royals oozed sex appeal - including Prince William and Grace Kelly

The royals certainly know how to court the cameras, but occasionally there's a little extra oomph in their charm

The life of a royal comes with plenty of rules and regulations, so when a princess sets out for stylish revenge, or when a quick flick through the history books makes it obvious why certain royals had quite so many heirs to the crown, fans are sure to get in a bit of a flutter.

Read on to see the royals a little less buttoned up than usual – including some iconic outfits and a 19th-century boudoir-style painting.

Prince Carl Philip became something of a viral hit for his loved-up wedding to Princess Sofia

A fairytale ending

The suit, the hair, that smile... Need we say more? Prince Carl Philip of Sweden happily tied the knot with now Princess Sofia in 2015, and with it he had plenty of royal fans booking their next flight to mainland Europe.

It must have been something in the, ahem, intensity of his gaze that had viewers imagining their own wedding to the King of Sweden's only son.

Prince William may have aged well into a more rugged look, but we still fondly remember his fresh-faced charm

England's Prince Charming

Prince William made headlines recently for a more rugged look as fans clamoured for sightings of the heir's fetching beard, but this royal fever is nothing new.

Plenty of fans have been keeping up to date with the prince since he was still enjoying life as a bachelor, complete with his shiny blonde locks and freshly-pressed suits. But then again, we've all been a sucker for a handsome prince since we first learnt the words 'Once upon a time...'

Diana's 'Revenge Dress' made headlines with a low neckline, off the shoulder cut and figure hugging silhouette

Best served cold

Nobody did a standout fashion moment like the late Princess Diana, and she was far from oblivious of the power clothes could give to their wearer.

On the evening when then-Prince Charles admitted to his infidelity during their marriage, Diana stepped out in a jaw-dropping black dress, complete with sheer tights and some fabulous heels. A look that will never be forgotten.

Queen Victoria was far from prudish and gifted her beloved husband a rather steamy token of her affections

Royal bedchamber

We know what you're thinking, but while Queen Victoria's red-hot portrait might be pretty tame by today's standards, at the time it was meant for Prince Albert's eyes only.

In an early boudoir-style painting intended only for private display, Victoria let her hair cascade loosely over one shoulder and donned a tantalising neckline that showed off her bare shoulders.

Grace Kelly is infamously stylish and brought some of this same seductive appeal as a princess

Hollywood heartthrob

It's a true Hollywood ending: Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier II, tied the knot on 18 April 1956 and became Princess of Monaco.

While she left acting behind for charity work and royal life, she certainly didn't abandon her glamorous side as a portrait of the princess shows just enough skin to tease the cameras.

Prince Harry was always up for a good time, but he was also a big fan of a good cause

Good form for a good cause

Before he was married and settled as a father of two, Prince Harry was well-known as a bit of a party boy. As the spare, not the heir, the second son was fond of a bit of good fun — for a good cause, of course.

In 2008, the then-23-year-old prince got involved in a polo match to raise money for the charity he co-founded, Sentebale. Clad in some tight fitting trousers and a relaxed polo shirt while hot off the pitch, Harry defined sporting sex appeal.

Princess Kate's university days gave us some memorable looks, but even her casual wear was sinfully stylish

Those college days

Ah, university! The perfect time to make new friends, dance the night away and, maybe once in a while, head to the library. Princess Kate had some well-known style moments at the University of St Andrews – including that sheer fashion show look – but her day-to-day was just as memorable.

Spending some time with her dad, Kate kept things casual in a slinky camisole and some low slung jeans that certainly swerve into sexier territory.
